National Basketball Association Internship Program

The NBA Summer Internship Program is a hands-on opportunity for enrolled college students to build their work experience and learn the behind-the-scenes operations of the NBA league office. Over the 10-week program, summer interns participate in a series of events and activities exposing them to the many facets of the NBA’s business, including the WNBA and NBA D-League.

 

Applicant placement within an NBA department is based on the NBA’s business needs, as well as the candidate’s interest, experience, and academic achievement. All positions are located at the NBA league offices in either New York City (midtown Manhattan) or Secaucus, New Jersey.

 

To qualify for the Internship Program, students must be either (a) enrolled in an accredited undergraduate college or university and be between their junior or senior year OR (b) graduate students (typically MBA) between their first and second years, or law students between years one and two, or years two and three.

National Basketball Players Association Summer Internship Program

The National Basketball Players Association’s internship program provides undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to get hands-on experience with a sports union.

The Nuclear Energy Institute

The Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) has a number of openings for paid interns beginning in the summer. The Nuclear Energy Institute (www.nei.org) is the policy organization of the nuclear energy and technologies industry and participates in both the national and global policy-making process. NEIs mission is to ensure the implementation of policies that promote the beneficial uses of nuclear energy and technologies in the United States and around the world. To that end, NEI works to establish unified industry positions on the regulatory aspects of generic operational and technical issues. NEI’s members include all entities licensed to operate commercial nuclear power plants in the United States, nuclear plant designers, architect/engineering firms, fuel fabrication facilities, nuclear materials licensees, and other organizations and entities involved in the nuclear energy industry.

 

Interns at NEI will work with seasoned nuclear professionals in the technical, communications, policy development, government relations and legal areas on issues critical to the industry. Internships are 10 weeks and take place during the summer. All applicants must submit an application that includes a resume and a copy of their transcript. Applicants must participate in an in person interview or by phone, if requested.

Public Allies

To participate in the program, individuals must have at least a high school diploma or GED, be a U.S. citizen or have permanent residency, and be at least 17 years of age. Public Allies bases our selection of Ally applicants on core competencies.

 

If selected, you are placed with a local nonprofit organization and participate in a full-time, paid apprenticeship for 10 months (in some cases you can apply for a second consecutive year with the program). You attend regular skill-building and leadership development sessions with your cohort of Allies, and receive life and professional development coaching along the way. You will use your new leadership skills to help strengthen the organization you are placed with, as well as connect to leaders and organizations in your community to help address real issues.

In addition, AmeriCorps Allies are eligible to receive a monthly stipend of approximately $1,300 to $1,800, access to health care and child care, and an education award of $5,775 after completing the program to pay back student loans or pay for future education. Most AmeriCorps members are also eligible for forbearance or deferment of student loans.

Reproductive Rights and Social Justice Organization

The Reproductive Rights Activist Service Corps (RRASC) is a 10-week paid summer internship program sponsored by the Civil Liberties and Public Policy Program at Hampshire College. Undergraduate students intern at reproductive rights and social justice organizations around the country. Organizations work on a wide array of issues from reproductive health, immigrant rights, food justice, LGBTQ rights, anti-violence, prison abolition, intimate partner abuse, labor rights, and public policy.

 

Some of the participating organizations include: Advocates for Youth, Sadie Nash Leadership Project, National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, Amnesty International, Political Research Associates, HealthRight International, Justice Now, the Audre Lorde Project, Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health, Legal Services for Prisoners with Children, Law Students for Reproductive Justice, Tewa Women United, the Prison Birth Project, National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, National Asian Pacific American Womens Forum, and the Sylvia Rivera Law Project.

Internship stipend is $3500.

 

Eligibility requirements:

-Must currently be an undergraduate student at a US college/university
-Must not be graduating in Spring/Summer
-Must be able to attend the CLPP Conference (CLPP will cover all travel costs for students who live outside of Western Massachusetts)

Stephanie Tubbs Jones Summer Internship Program

The Delta Research and Educational Foundation (DREF), under the auspices of its Center for Research on African American Women (The Center), established the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Social Justice Institute. Currently the STJ Institute offers an annual summer internship, collaboration with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, for young women to work in the U.S. Congress. 

The intensive nine-week summer internship program offers the opportunity for college students from across the nation to learn about the legislative process, leadership and careers in policy making. Interns work in CBC member offices, attend professional development events, and participate in leadership development projects. The program prepares young people to become informed decision makers and influential leaders who shape our world.

The Stephanie Tubbs Jones Intern will also attend select programs and events sponsored by DREF in addition to full participation in the CBCF Congressional Internship Program.

Benefits of the Internship Program

U.S. Department of Justice: Office of Public Affairs

The Office of Public Affairs offers internships that provide undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to work in a fast-paced government communications office.

As the principal point of contact for the Department of Justice with the news media, the office is responsible for ensuring that the public is informed about the department’s activities, and the priorities and policies of the Attorney General with regard to law enforcement and legal affairs.

The Office of Public Affairs offers three internship programs as follows:

Media Affairs Internship: The media affairs intern will assist press officers with telephone calls from national news media, gather news clips, assist with interviews and press conferences, edit and issue news releases on a variety of topics, as well as other duties as assigned.

Individuals interested in this position should submit two writing samples in addition to the application materials listed below. Writing samples should not exceed 4 pages. Non-legal and non- academic writing samples such as essays, news articles, and blog posts are preferred.

 

Speechwriting Internship: The speechwriting intern will assist in drafting and editing remarks for the Attorney General, provide research assistance, and contribute to other communications projects. Individuals interested in this position should submit two non-legal writing samples in addition to the application materials listed below.

Qualified candidates have a strong interest in or are seeking a degree in communications, public affairs/relations, media, journalism, and/or public policy and government. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are a must. Ability to handle multiple tasks and to work under pressure is also necessary. Previous internship experience is desirable.

White House Internship Program

Selection as a White House Intern is based on the following criteria:

  • A commitment to public service

  • Demonstrated leadership in the community

  • A commitment to the mission of the Obama Administration

 

The selection process is highly competitive. Applicants are encouraged to submit a thorough application that illustrates qualifications, character, and commitment to public service. A completed application includes two essay questions, two letters of recommendation, and a resume.

 

Prerequisites

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, 18 years of age on or before the first day of the internship, and meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at a college, community college, or university (two-to-four year institution)

  • Graduated from an undergraduate or graduate degree program at a college, community college, or university (two-to-four year institution) no more than two years before the first day of the internship

  • A veteran of the United States Armed Forces who possesses a high school diploma or its equivalent and has served on active duty, for any length of time, in the two years preceding the first day of the internship
