Asian American Cultural Center

The Asian American Cultural Center Paid Internship Program provides students an opportunity to undertake creative and challenging assignments that promote cross-cultural understanding of Asian American and Asian international experiences, and provide educational and cultural support for Asians and Asian Americans in our university community. Interns will attend a weekly seminar to develop professional skills and learn about Asian American and Asian international identities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a schedule of 10 hours of work per week ($8.50/hr)

  • Participate in a weekly seminar on Asian & Asian American issues

  • Assist with front desk reception duties

  • Monitor building during evening hours

 

Each intern will be assigned one or more of the following duties:

  • Office Specialist Intern: Assist in managing space reservations, electronic records, databases, logs, scheduling and resources

  • Programming Intern: Assist with programming related to Asian Americans including Food For Thought, CHAI Time, Art Exhibits, Book Club, Leadership Awards and more

  • Outreach Intern: Assist with engaging current students with community outreach, on campus and beyond such as Champaign-Urbana public schools, libraries, and local organizations

  • International Education Intern: Assist with programs related to international students, engaging domestic and international students on and off campus, and research topics related to studying abroad

  • Communication Intern: Assist with e-newsletter, website, advertising AACC events via facebook and calendars, flyers, photography, bulletin boards, electronic media and other forms of media venues. Experience with Adobe Creative Suites preferred.

  • Hermia Soo Intern: Assist in working with alumni, grant writing, and research topics pertaining to Asian American communities. Returning interns preferred.

Carle Non-clinical Internships

Applying for a Carle Internship is simple. Please send a cover letter stating your interests, reasons for wanting to intern, and the semester you will need as well as an updated resume.

The application deadlines are as follows:

  • Spring Semester - October 1

  • Summer Semester - April 1

  • Fall Semester - April 1

 

The majority of our non-clinical internships are administrative, dealing with meetings, various projects, and other assignments. A department’s need for interns changes each semester. At the current time, there are no CEO internships offered. If you are looking to intern with a hospital administrator, the best step you can take is to get your resume and cover letter in early. Some of our VP's have interns booked up to 2 years in advance. While all internship are unpaid, the experience you will gain from working with professionals at Carle will strengthen your future career track.

Once an applicant submits their information, your information will be sent to our preceptors who will then contact you for an interview (this can take up to two weeks so please be patient). After your interview they will let you know if you have been accepted.

 

Applicants who are accepted into the program will need proof of your:

  • MMR vaccinations

  • Varicella (chicken pox) titer or proof of immunization

  • 2 step TB test

 

If you are a Spring or Fall intern you will also need to get a flu shot. If you are unable/unwilling to get a flu shot you will need to sign a declination statement, watch a powerpoint presentation, take a quiz, and pass with an 80% score, you will also be required to wear a mask when you are within 6 feet of patients.

Campus Recreation - Internships

Campus Recreation offers two internship positions for the 2016-2017 academic year: Human Resources Internship (paid), and Wellness Internship (unpaid). Campus Recreation interns will represent Campus Recreation at special events, participate in staff meetings, work on several projects both on their own and with a team, and much more. These positions provide students the opportunity to develop and showcase a set of professional skills including teamwork, communication, and organization. Successful candidates will be able to work independently as well as in a team, demonstrate excellent communication and time management skills, be highly organized, be self-motivated, and have a genuine passion for their work.

Classes in Washington

IIW is open to all majors. Fall and summer students take 3 classes for a total of 12 credits. Summer students take the 6-credit core internship seminar.

IIW students live in shared housing a few blocks from the Capitol and easy walking distance from the metro. Students intern full-time four days a week, with classes on Fridays and Monday evenings. Weekends and evenings are yours to explore Washington, DC.

Students have weekly visits to different organizations in Washington to learn about the broad range of interests and professions in DC. IIW matches students with mentors and provides networking opportunities with recent IIW graduates.

Illinois Leadership Center

Graf Internship: As a Graf Intern for the Illinois Leadership Center (ILC), four undergraduates will gain experience coordinating and marketing the logistical aspects of the ILC’s leadership programs while working with ILC staff.   In addition, the Graf Interns will be provided opportunities to develop essential skills through participation in: donor visits and presentations, service on ILC committees, facilitating by-request leadership workshops, providing outreach presentations, coordinating marketing efforts of the Center to the campus community, and helping set strategic goals for the Center.  At the completion of the Graf Internship, students will have experienced a dynamic and challenging work environment and will have grown in essential skills like communication, professionalism, public speaking, organization, and project management (4 positions).

Intercultural Horizon Internship

The Intercultural Horizon Internship Program promotes cultural awareness on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus by addressing various social issues that affect international and domestic students. The purpose is to establish a stronger connection between international and domestic students to address these issues. The goal of the internship is to develop recommendations to these issues and to implement programs throughout both semesters.

Selected Interns will have completed Global Studies 199 independent study  during the Fall semester, and during the Spring semester 1 credit hour and a $500 stipend at the end of the semester.

 

This internship is a partnership with the Asian American Cultural Center, the University YMCA, International Student and Scholar Services, and Diversity and Social Justice Education.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintain a schedule of 10 hours of work per week

  • Participate in weekly discussions about international/domestic student issues

  • Develop and implement several projects throughout both semesters

  • Create a list of recommendations for bringing together international and domestic students

  • Communicate effectively with the Asian American Cultural Center, the University YMCA, International Student and Scholar Services, and Diversity Education and Social Justice

 

Qualifications

  • Demonstrates commitment to bringing together international and domestic students

  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team and independently with a high degree of initiative 

  • Undergraduate student at U of I that is enrolled in Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 semesters

  • Must attend weekly meetings

  • Federal Work Study preferred but not required

New Leadership Illinois

NEW LeadershipTM is a non-partisan, week-long residential program for college women designed to increase women's representation in all elements of public life, including elected office. The program challenges our brightest students to think critically and creatively about public policy and encourages them to make a commitment to public leadership early in their careers.

 

The application deadline for the program typically occurs in March.

 

The NEW Leadership Illinois program is typically held in Chicago June.

 

Applicants must have rising junior or rising senior standing at the university level, or recent graduate status (winter or spring graduation date). State, private and community college students may apply. Community college students must have completed sophomore year, and be applying to a four-year school for the rising academic year. Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs

Fred H. Turner Fellows serve in pre-professional paid internships in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. These internship positions provide undergraduates the opportunity to undertake professional assignments under the guidance of the Vice Chancellor and staff during their senior year. Previous Turner Fellows have worked on a wide range of issues from strategic planning, student fees, community-based learning and volunteer service to leadership development, campus safety and wellness. Fellows coordinate focus sessions to discuss pertinent student issues and created presentations for the Chancellor's Cabinet, Student Affairs staff and students.These interns provide insights on student concerns and issues and learn about the operations of Student Affairs at Illinois (3 positions).

Office of Volunteer Programs

Barbara Seaquist Williams Internship: This paid internship position provides the opportunity for students to work with the Champaign-Urbana community and its ever-changing needs. Because of the unique partnerships the Office of Volunteer Programs has with the community, interns will experience first hand the value of those partnerships. Interns will take advantage of mentoring relationships with the Director of the Office of Volunteer Programs as well as community leaders that work closely with the office. Interns will participate in Office of Volunteer Programs’ work to develop a climate of civic engagement on campus, which may include taking a leadership role in office outreach to the student community. Interns will be expected to complete a signature project related to service that may require research, analysis, and the planning and preparation of a final presentation (1 position).

Community Health 199B: Campus Acquaintance Rape Education (CARE)

 

Do you want to learn more about a social problem that is very pertinent to students on campus? Do you like classes where you can discuss topics in-depth with your peers in a safe, supportive environment? Do you want to get involved and find a way to make a difference? In this course, students will examine sexual violence in the college environment, its various institutional and cultural contexts, and how to support survivors, as well as develop practical skills for leading peer workshops for the FYCARE (First Year Campus Acquaintance Rape Education) program. During the course, students can apply to be FYCARE facilitators for future semesters.

Social Justice Education Paraprofessional Program

Student Affairs Advancement

Advancement Internship: The Student Affairs Advancement internship is a paid position that offers pre-professional experience for a talented and energetic junior or senior with a career interest in student affairs, fundraising, professional writing, and/or communications. Candidates should have excellent organizational skills, demonstrate creative and professional writing skills, and have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills. Possible duties may include: research, developing, and producing content for donor promotions and planning and coordinating general Student Affairs Advancement events. The intern is also expected to train and mentor the I-Advance Leaders. 

I-Advance Leadership Position: The students involved in this unpaid leadership position will make phone calls to Student Affairs donors to thank them for their gifts to the University, and explain ways in which they have been – or could be – affected by their gifts. They will attend certain donor/alumni events, such as Foundation Weekend, Student Affairs Reunion (Homecoming), and other occasions that are connected to different units within Student Affairs, giving them an opportunity to socialize with donors.

Upward Bound

TRIO Educational Outreach Programs | TRIO Upward Bound College Prep Academy

 

TRIO Upward Bound College Prep Academy is a pre-college academic program. They are searching for student-centered, compassionate, outcomes-oriented, energetic, and innovative individuals for several positions in our intensive six-week Summer Instructional Residential Component. Positions will be filled pending availability of funds and final schedules.

Anticipated start and end dates are May-July. However, some staff may be hired for shorter or longer terms depending on training, instructional, residential, or other operational needs.

 

ANTICIPATED POSITIONS AVAILABLE:

 

INSTRUCTORS & TEACHING ASSISTANT POSITIONS:

  • Math: Algebra I, Algebra II w/Trig, Geometry, Calculus

  • English: Grammar & Composition I, Grammar & Composition II, College Grammar & Composition

  • Science: Molecular and Microbiology, Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy

  • Reading: Reading Comprehension and Literature I, Reading Comprehension and Literature II

Some instructors may be hired earlier to assist with designing curriculum and pre-assessments which are new practices for the Academy. Teaching assistants will be required to supervise and chaperone students for designated periods.

 

Minimum required qualifications for instructors are a bachelor’s degree in teaching area and recent teaching experience. Certification is strongly desired. Teaching assistants must be at least college junior status or higher and must have a 3.00 or higher GPA. Prior tutoring or related experience strongly desired.
